walks lake District provide a challenging Lake District walk that provides the most beautiful views around Buttermere with some steep ascents up Red Pike beside the highest waterfall in the Lakes, Scale Force.
Setting out from the Buttermere Village the route heads toward the Buttermere Lake before turning right sign posted ‘Scale Force’. The walk takes you past Crummock water as it begins to ascend Red Pike via Scale Force, a steep climb to start. Maintaining views of Buttermere on the left, traverse the ridge Northward taking in the summits of High Stile, High crag with a steep descent to Scarth Gap. Then a steep ascent to Haystack summit before turning left past innominate tarn onto Fleetwith Pike. Breath-taking views from the head of Buttermere down the valley towards Crummock water and beyond. A steep descent towards Honnister Pass where a café is situated, then a steep long climb up Dale Head, now we are on the opposite side of the Lake. Follow the ridge to Hindscarth, and Robinson summits, before descending the spur back to Buttermere Village for some well earned refreshments.
